Features irrelevant to the classification of the intraverbal include the musculature involved in executing the response, the modality of the prior verbal stimulus, the dynamic features of either the stimulus or the response, and the “correctness” of the response.
A form of verbal behavior with the following features:
A verbal response
The prior controlling variable is a verbal stimulus
There is NO point-to-point correspondence between the stimulus and the response
The specific topography and dynamic characteristics of the vocal response
The musculature involved in executing the response
The modality of the prior verbal stimulus (usually either visual or auditory)
Dynamic features of either the stimulus or the response
The “correctness” of the response
I am curious about the categorization of these concepts broadly speaking. When I pass a stranger on the street, I choose from a bank of pre-selected greetings to say hello to them. It might be “Hey,” or “Hello.” If they, like me, are also selecting from predetermined greetings, then if we happen to say the same one, is it truly an echoic? They are prompted by my behavior to respond, there is point to point correspondence, but the overall context of the situation seems to fall outside what I understand echoics to be.
