2.4 Form and Structure of Language

Verbal behavior is typically studied on the basis of its form or structure, as shown in this sentence diagram, with little attention paid to the circumstances under which it occurs. Before Skinner, few language scholars focused on identifying the variables that are responsible for a particular occurrence of verbal behavior.
