45.5 Passive Voice

Finally, in some cases, order may be traced to the relative strength or likelihood of occurrence of several verbal responses. Many passive constructions, such as “the boy was bitten by the dog,” may result because “boy” is more strongly controlled by the stimulus conditions than the response “dog.”

The boy was bitten by the dog speech bubble.
