As many as 1 in 36 children are diagnosed with autism. Though the characteristics of each child vary, children with autism typically have difficulty communicating with others, lack some social skills, and perform unusual behaviors or rituals. Without effective treatment, they are unlikely to be able to learn in traditional school or pre-school settings.

In navigating to the Autism Speaks website, I was encouraged to learn that 74% of autistic students in the U.S. graduate with a diploma, versus 86% of all students, which is still less than neurotypical students, but not as concerningly as I would imagine is true historically.
