Having a mastery of principles and technical terminology that is deep and rich in its understanding greatly accelerates your ability to ask non-technical questions. A superficial understanding might lead one to favor the use of terms and concepts memorized without deep and rich understanding. Ms. Sullivan is more likely to be receptive to answering non-technical questions than answering questions she is not yet ready to understand.
