Attributing the function to a psychological disorder is both non-behavioral and flawed logic in general. It is circular logic and an example of mentalism. The description of the behavior pattern then becomes the cause in a circular logic trap. Behaviorally, it is incorrect as it directs attention inside the person and away from environmental variables that may be responsible for the behavior.

The unpredictable and, at times, extreme overreaction is attributable to his intermittent explosive disorder (IED).
