Imagine a neighbor calls you one day and says, “Hey, y’all, if you feed my pet pig while I’m on vacation for the next week, I’ll give you $50 when I get back.” How could a simple string of words like this control your behavior? Because the rule contains contextual cues for relations among events that change the functions of those events.

If you feed my pig while I’m on vacation for the next week, I’ll give you $50 when I get back.
